Advisory Committees

Advancement Committee Duties Description 

  • Work with staff to establish a fundraising plan that incorporates a series of appropriate vehicles, such as special events, direct mail, product sales, etc. 
  • Work with staff in their efforts to raise money 
  • Take the lead in certain types of outreach efforts, such as chairing a dinner/dance committee or hosting fundraising parties, etc. 
  • Responsible for involvement of all board members in fundraising, such as having board members uphold their financial commitment, make telephone calls to ask for support 
  • Monitor fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective. 
  • Prepare priorities for board composition 
  • Meet with prospective board members and recommend a slate of candidates to the board 
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new board members and  organize training sessions for the entire board, and 
  • Suggest new, non-board individuals for committee membership. 

 

Budget and Finance Committee Duties Description 

  • To review budgets initially prepared by staff, to help develop appropriate procedures for budget preparations (such as meaningful involvement by program directors), and on a consistency between the budget and the organization’s plans 
  • To report to the board any financial irregularities, concerns, opportunities 
  • To recommend financial guidelines to the board (such as to establish a reserve fund or to obtain a line of credit for a specified amount) 
  • To work with staff to design financial reports and ensure that reports are accurate and timely 
  • To recommend selection of the auditor and work with the auditor,  
  • To advise the executive director and other appropriate staff on financial priorities and information systems, depending on committee member expertise. 

 

Marketing Communications Committee Duties Description 

 

  • Responsible for promoting and raising awareness of the organization’s mission and programs to the Metro Atlanta community and beyond.  
  • Developing and implementing marketing strategies and campaigns, managing the organization’s website and social media presence, creating and distributing promotional materials, and establishing and maintaining relationships with media outlets.  
  • Effectively communicate the impact and benefits of YES programs to potential participants, donors, and stakeholders, and to drive support for the organization’s mission of providing alternative education solutions and prevention services to disconnected youth in the community. 
  • Organizing events and community outreach initiatives to further engage with and inform the public about YES programs. This could include hosting information sessions, participating in local events and festivals, and collaborating with other organizations to promote YES programs and services. 
  • Promoting the success stories and positive impact of YES program participants, highlighting the importance of alternative education solutions and the difference YES is making in the lives of young people in the community. This helps to build support for YES and reinforce the organization’s reputation as a leading provider of quality and effective services for youth in need. 

 

Programs Committee Duties Description 

  • Provide strategic direction to meet agency’s objectives 
  • Oversee new program development, and to monitor and assess existing programs 
  • Initiate and guide program evaluations 
  • To facilitate discussions about program priorities for the agency
