FROM YES GED GRADUATE TO AN AMAZING FUTURE FILLED WITH UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES!
Our youth leave traditional schools without obtaining a high school diploma for a myriad of reasons. We learned very early at YES that one size does not fit all, and though there are many common themes, each young person’s story is distinct. Below is a small sampling of the many successes our students are experiencing after obtaining their GED.
Victoria
- Obtained the highest GED test score in the state of Georgia in 2018 (749 out of 800)
- Performed in the 98th percentile on the ACT (American College Testing (scored 33 out of 36)
- Worked as a peer tutor and mentor at YES
- Became an entrepreneur and started a cheesecake business while a student at YES
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance – Georgia State University’s (GSU) Robinson College Of Business
- Accepted into the prestigious Honors College and The Eric J. Joiner Achievement Academy – GSU
- Maintains a 4.24 G.P.A. (Grade Point Average) at GSU
David
- Mechanical Engineering Regents’ transfer student – Georgia Perimeter College
- Completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering – Georgia Institute of Technology (2019)
- Worked as a peer tutor and mentor at YES
- The Home Depot – OrangeWorks Technology Center
- Software Engineer, Fall 2018 Intern Aug. 2018 – Dec. 2018
- Successfully produced 2D-live-mapping with LiDAR and iRobot-Roomba
- Delivered Python code for visualization of LiDAR data and keyboard-controllability of an iRobot-Roomba
- Investigated and integrated ROS and SLAM algorithms for live-scanning
- Published video demonstrations, findings, and notes for 3D-mapping adaptation on The Home Depot’s GitHub

Jamie
- Identified in elementary school as a special education student with learning disabilities
- Obtained an associate’s degree in General Studies – Georgia Military College, Fairburn Campus
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology – University of West Georgia (UWG)
- Received all A’s Fall Semester 2019 and Spring Semester 2020 – UWG
- Plans to enter a master’s program to continue studies in Psychology in 2022 – UWG
- Wants to become a counselor to help other young people facing the challenges he had to overcome
- First in his family to attend and graduate from college

- Worked at YES as an office manager while attending college

- Currently works as a social worker and manager at Fulton County Juvenile Court
Kikachukwu
- Associate of Science in Chemistry (Honors) – Georgia Perimeter College
- Georgia Institute of Technology, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department – Research Project: Preparation of Cyclodextrin Based Organic Nanotubes via Base Pair Self Assembly
